Student enrollment support

Admission without
barriers

A clear path into a neighbourhood school — with help if papers are incomplete or a child needs support on day one.

Bring what you have. The desk lists what is still needed, agrees any classroom supports, and confirms the first day with the family.

  • Papers you already hold Birth note, photos, last school letter, any assessment — incomplete files are OK at the start.
  • Desk walk-through School or district staff explain the next step in plain language, not jargon.
  • Day-one support Seating, toilets, devices or a calm orientation — asked for before the first bell.

Timeline

Six-step enrollment timeline

Ask the school

Start at the neighbourhood school or district desk — ask what admission needs this year.

List papers you have

Write down birth note, photos, school letters and any support notes already at home.

Visit the district or school desk

Staff check the list, explain gaps, and open the file without unofficial fees.

Agree a support plan if needed

Seating, toilets, devices or a calm orientation — agreed before the first day.

Confirm the first day

Get the date, time and who will meet the child at the gate — in writing if you can.

Follow up after two weeks

Check that the child is settling and that any promised supports are in place.

Support

During admission for children with disabilities

Ask early about classroom access so day one feels planned, not improvised.

  • Seating and toiletsAsk where the child will sit and how bathrooms are reached before the first day.
  • Devices and orientationIf a tool or calm walk-through helps, agree it with the desk in advance.
  • Trusted adultBring someone the child knows. Schools should not invent unofficial fees.
